Become a volunteer!!!

Welcome to North Hays County Fire/Rescue, Driftwood Battalion.

Becoming a volunteer firefighter is one of the most gratifying things that you can do. Giving back to the
community that you live in and being part of a large firefighting family has many rewards.

Q: When do we meet and what do I have to do?

A: Driftwood Battalion meets every Tuesday night starting at 7pm. Training normally lasts approximately 2 hrs.

To become a member either fill in an application form here or just turn up to one of our Tuesday night training
sessions and observe what we do. Then you can decide if firefighting is something you want to pursue.

Q: How much training will I receive?

A: North Hays County Fire/Rescue trains at least once a week. You will also be eligible to sign up for
additional training after your probationary period of 6 months.

What other types of training are available?

Many of our members have taken additional courses. Such as Trench rescue, Swift water rescue, High angle rescue,
Vehicle extrication, and Open water diver.

Some of our members also attend the Texas Engineering Extension Service’s (TEEX) Annual Fire School in College Station Texas.

We offer an Introductory academy and a basic firefighter academy so that you can fast track your training
if you feel comfortable.

We encourage many of our members to train as medical responders. CPR/AED training is given, but ask any
of our members what you need to do to become an Emergency Care attendant or Emergency Medical Technician – Basic

Q: What else do I need to know?

A: We will provide you with uniform and training. The current minimum age limit is 18, there is no upper age limit.

Q: How much time do I need to give?

A: We ask that you attend as many training nights as possible. You will also be assigned to a shift after you have
attended the minimum of 4 weeks of training/meetings. We encourage all our members to sign up and run calls
on their shifts over the weekend.

We understand that many people have busy lives, so all we ask is that you give as much time as you can to help
your community.

If you have any further questions about becoming a volunteer for North Hays County Fire/Rescue please feel
free to speak to any of our members who will be happy to answer them for you. We look forward to seeing at
our next meeting.
